Pastel Ghost

Pastel Ghost Releases New Single "3NDL3SS"

A hidden gem interwoven in the fabric of Austin's eclectic music scene, Pastel Ghost is throttling her presence with the exceptional release of her sophomore album, Ethereality. Pastel Ghost brings blissful electro-soundscapes to surface with a few barbs of introspective darkness that gives her music a haunting mystique. Her first single, "3NDL3SS", has tropical synths floating over house-beats that are pulsing and unreachable at the same time. Pastel Ghost's vocals are sultry and seductive, like a chanteuse luring you to her room down the hall. The result is that Pastel Ghost creates an alternative world where reality gets put in the rearview, and the listener becomes immersed in a fantasy-like trance. While her music is neither light or dark, this dreamraver creates a nuanced perspective of love and loss that is not easily forgotten.

Oakland dreamraver PASTEL GHOST heads to SXSW

Oakland-based artist PASTEL GHOST is a synth-pop artist with a shoegazer's agenda—a combination not often found in the electronica scene. Operating under a genre that she calls “dreamrave,” her music is ethereal and elusive. Her single “POSSESSION” (streaming below) is just one example of how she layers her slippery vocals over driving synth beats to create a seductive and mysterious sound unlike any other. Effortlessly cool and complex, PASTEL GHOST is definitely one to keep an eye on as she works on recording and releasing a follow-up LP to her debut project, ABYSS. She will be making her way down to SXSW this year, with a showcase on March 15th. - Lilly Milman

Pastel Ghost leaves SF for Brooklyn, plays SXSW

Brainchild of programmer Vivian Moon, who recently relocated from the SF Bay Area to Brooklyn, Pastel Ghost remind us how psychedelia slowly emerged as an important influence in the electronic sound of the '80s, opening the door to the lush dream pop of Cocteau Twins and to My Bloody Valentine's shoegazer sound. The band's electro cover of MBV's 'When You Sleep' sounds like a declaration of intents: shoegazer music where synths trump guitars. Debut LP 'Abyss,' released in early 2015, accomplishes this objective with flair, keeping things interesting with catchy melodies buried in reverb, and showcasing a production that - within a uniform sound - expertly manages sonic variations. If you are heading to SXSW in March, you'll get a chance to see Pastel Ghost there.
