The Crowleys - Jangly New Psych Single "Clarice"

The Crowleys are a psychedelic pop-rock band from Hamilton. They have figured out a way to effectively master that lo-fi garage sound while keeping the quality high and melodies catchy. Their new single “Clarice” has duel vocals and a medium paced jangle. The lyrics touch on “the uncertainty within yourself when dealing with mental health issues”. The Crowleys play This Ain’t Hollywood in Hamilton on November 6th along with Hot Garbage and Simply Saucer. – Kris Gies

Toledo bring their mello folk-pop to Baby's All Right on 11.01

Daniel Alvarez and Jordan Dunn-Pilz form the dream-folk band TOLEDO. The New York City duo released their first EP, “Hotstuff” earlier this year, a collection of laid back, mostly acoustic tracks drawing airy pop melodies on a twangy background. Single “Qué Pasa?” perfectly sums up this Mazzy Star-inspired sound, in which smooth and dazed vocals perfectly complement the light and dainty melody. The other four song on the EP are consistently enjoyable, making this band a candidate for the post-Real Estate throne. TOLEDO will perform in NYC at Baby’s All Right on 11.02.

nutrients - New Jangly Soul Track from Lo-Fi Veterans "such slime"

Lo-fi and lower case centric band nutrients have released a brand new single “such slime”. This tune begins with a slacker dream pop vibe before blossoming into a wonderful mix of soul and jangly indie rock. The video gives off old school feelings with production that could confuse one into thinking it’s a tune from the 70s. nutrients next gig is at The Garrison on October 27th with Quaker Parents opening for Omni. – Kris Gies

Tough Age - Garage Pop Music Video "Me in Glue", Junction City 10.19

Tough Age are a power pop trio on Mint Records spending most of their time in Toronto. They have a rather lengthy discography available on their bandcamp page which includes their latest release “Shame”. Earlier this year they released a video for the single “Me in Glue”. This tune is a catchy lo-fi rocker accompanied by a music video which shows the singer of the group having just a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. The guitar licks sound happy though! Tough Age will be playing a huge show at Junction City Music Hall on Saturday October 19th with the legendary BA Johnston and pop punk extraordinaire’s First Base. – Kris Gies

Gorgeous's "Shed Boys" stumbles and rips, play Alphaville 11.13

Math rock duo Gorgeous lay down a tremendous groove on new single “Shed Boys,” one that grungily stumbles forwards while never getting lost in the reeds of shifting time signatures. Propelled by an ear-worm melodic bassline (one that embeds the entire track with a sense of aggressive-yet-triumphant forward momentum), guitarist and singer Dana Lipperman bright vocals provide a cheery high end to Gorgeous’s predominantly dark guitar lines; this interplay makes the band’s ultimate output a fun, thrash-friendly mix of experimental rock and noise pop. Listen below, and catch Gorgeous at Threes Brewing on October 15th, as well as their Alphaville record release show on November 13th. -Connor Beckett McInerney, Photo by Michelle LoBianco
