The Beach Bats - "Beach Body"

Self professed "sandy garage rock from an inner city beach". The Beach Bats are from Hamilton. So they must be hangin out at the beach with the unswimmable water. If it helps them create these sweet surf-rock tunes then I hope they keep doin what their doing. Moon Mutt, Goth Bikini and Roger Banks are responsible for the Beach Bats. They mix surf rhythms with indie rock melodies along with 90s punk rock vocals. I could hear the tune "Beach Body" be played on the film "Clerks". - Kris Gies

Tomorrow! (March 26) DC punk powerhouse Bad Moves at Comet Ping Pong

Tomorrow is a don’t miss show! Anyone who can make it, please go see February's Emerging Artist of the Month Bad Moves tomorrow night at Comet Ping Pong with folk punk veterans Nana Grizol. For anyone who has not listened to Bad Moves yet, this group is a major reason why DC is still known for its punk music. Simply put, the group is straight fire, maybe destined for greatness.

Catch Bad Moves with Nana Grizol (GA), David Dondero (VA), and Bacchae (DC) tomorrow night, March 26th, at Comet Ping Pong.

Grim Streaker to lay down some noise-indie-garage vibes at Cape Town 3/25

Kicking off with just a couple of stick clicks, Grim Streakers’ debut track, “Guts,” errupts in a rush of noise and punk-rock bravado. The Brooklyn-based band thrusts the listen into an engulfing wall of sound that's at once thick, trashy and catchy. The release is a spitfire of a track that does it all while just clocking above the 2-minute mark, and if it's a sign of what's to come, then we're expecting big things out of the group. Catch Grim Streaker live at Cape Town 3/25 alongside Cold Fronts, The Howl, and The Boobies, and be sure to stream "Guts" below. - Olivia Sisinni

PREMIERE: Sea Fuzz - "Garuda Dreams"

All the little bits of sunshine we've the last couple days have been absolutely amazing, but the newest video and album from our favorite sunny shoegaze/ocean grunge outfit Sea Fuzz makes this Vitamin D daze we're all in even better.

The perfect follow up to 2015's self-titled EP, Sky Gazing is just the record we need going into the warmer months, boasting sounds reminiscent of rocking out to crashing waves while relaxing on the shoreline. Take the first single and video to come from the album, "Garuda Dreams," a gazed out track heavily led by forceful drumming and chaotic cymbal hits as an example. The track's light drenched sound is due in part its mixing, with the Om's drummer Emil Amos contributing to it.

"For this song, I was privileged to seek out the help of one of my favorite musicians of all time, Emil Amos, to help with the mixing and mastering," says Ben Heckler, the soul of Sea Fuzz. He goes on to say: "I gave the track to Amos and he completely transformed it, adding the perfect amounts of lo-fi grittiness to the vocals, guitar and drums. He really understood the aesthetic from the get-go and he knew precisely what the song needed to remain heavy and powerful, yet dreamlike."

Watch the trippy video for "Garuda Dreams" below. Sea Fuzz will be playing some shows locally and in Europe in support of Sky Gazing, out on Spirit Goth. Stream the album on Sea Fuzz's Soundcloud and Bandcamp pages.

New Evil Sword LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Evil Sword’s musical progression bears a resemblance to a time-lapse video of fungal growth or of decomposing animals; they both demonstrate within the same frame – bloom and decay – a grotesque beauty that operates slightly askew from what people expect from the art they consume. Evil Sword consists primarily of Kate Ferencz and Ben Furgal, who are sporadically accompanied by a roving cast of musicians and sound artists. An Eerie Fire Eats the Brain is Evil Sword’s first full-length album. Punchy bass, thundering percussion, and pan flute enshrine Ferencz’s vocals like an ill-fitting but well-suited costume. The LP is available as a double cassette box that houses the collection of songs and a full color book of art and writings. The group recently celebrated the album’s release with a show at PhilaMOCA, and they’ll be performing next in Philly on Wednesday, March 29 at LAVA Space.
